Life in the public services can be challenging, rewarding, interesting, and exciting and you will require a variety of skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed. This vocational course at Wakefield College will help you develop these qualities and give you an introduction to careers within this sector. The practical aspects of the course alongside the academic teaching will help in providing you with many other skills, such as communication and leadership skills, that are vitally important in all uniformed public service roles.

This course is intended for those who wish to learn many skills such as communication and leadership skills that are vitally important in all uniformed public service roles.

Requisitos: Diploma - You will require 4 GCSE’s at grade C (or new grade 9-4) or above or level 2 equivalent, together with a good school report. Alternatively, you will have successfully completed the NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Public Services gaining a Merit portfolio grade. You will also be required to complete a favourable interview. You will also need GCSE grade A*-C (or new grade 9-4) in Maths or a Level 2 Maths equivalent qualification. If you don't have this we can assess your ability in numeracy for consideration on an individual basis.

A range of subjects to help develop your understanding and skills, including units such as: Map reading, Fitness for the Public Services, Legal aspects, Leadership and Teamwork.
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C (or new grade 9-4), in these subjects, you will be required to attend additional lessons in these areas that will be allocated on your timetable. These are varied study sessions, and are designed to cater for all ability levels. You'll receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.
Skills in Maths and English will support your future and your course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have good Maths and English GCSEs, which is why the development of these skills are so important, whatever your field of study

Previous students have undertaken degrees in law, public policy, criminology, peace studies, psychology, sociology and many more. Wakefield College also provides the opportunity to continue your studies by enrolling onto our Access to Higher Education course that could lead to entry on to our Foundation Degree in Public Sector Management programme offered at our City campus.
 Entry into public services careers such as the Armed Forces, Police, Fire Service, Coastguard, Prison Service, Customs or other public organisations.
