Whether you plan on climbing the Eiffel Tower, ordering food in the gastronomic capital of France, Lyon, or simply having a go at a game of pétanque on the Côte d’Azur, this intensive French summer course is for you.Learn French from scratch with this intensive summer course designed for complete beginners who want to quickly gain social communication skills to get by in France in daily life situations.This is an intensive French short course requiring regular attendance and homework commitments between lessons, as the content of three terms are covered in one.Expect to be immersed in the French language even at this early stage with many speaking and group work activities.With the support of a tutor to facilitate your learning in class and outside the class with electronic means, students are able to engage in a mini conversation with French native speakers at the end of the course.By the end of the course students will have covered the syllabus normally covered in Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3 of French Beginners (Year 1). What will I learn?

Topics covered

To ask and answer questions about your daily routine and requesting information on everyday life activities such as: Greetings, introduce yourself and someone else, asking questions on jobs, nationalities, accommodations, families, locations, weather day of the week, months, seasons, using transports and buying tickets, wearing and choosing clothes including colours, buying and shopping for vegetable, fruits and any kind of food, ordering meals and drinks in a restaurant or at the bar, exercising sports and visiting places or exhibitions, expressing your preferences, likes and dislikes.

Grammatical structures

Basic verbs such as “être and avoir” ( to be and to have) with their conjugation in the present tense; Frequent verbs such as “manger, marcher, regarder, téléphoner, écouter, travailler; Definite and indefinite articles « le, la, les (the) », « un, une, des »; Possessive adjectives « mon, ma, mes » ( my) will follow in conjunction with masculine and feminine nouns; Interrogative and negative question forms; Key words, qui (who) où ( where) and quand ( when).
Modal verbs such “vouloir, pouvoir, devoir” (to want, to be able to, must; Pronouns for direct and indirect objects such as “lui” ( him or her) and “leur” (their); More key question words such as “pourquoi and parce-que” ( why and because); More adjective and their agreement; The three main French grammatical tenses, present, past and immediate future.

Teaching and Assessment

The emphasis in this French course is on listening and speaking. The lessons focus on language that is required in authentic situations.

Classroom activities will include: role-playing, class room discussion, pair and group work, work on pronunciation and intonation as well as grammar in context. Listening to audio clips and watching videos are an important element in our lessons. More comprehensive grammar exercises and reading texts are generally set as homework.
