This program aims to equip and doctors, nurses and allied health professionals on infection control principles and practices to enable them to function effectively as healthcare professionals in their respective areas. As infection prevention and control are an integral part of healthcare delivery, nurses and allied health professionals have an important role to play to ensure that their own safety and those of the patients under their care are not compromised. The objective of this course is to provide nurses and allied health professionals with comprehensive knowledge on basic microbiology, disease transmission process, principles of epidemiology, and current evidence-based infection control principles and practices.
Upon the successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Discuss the current perspective of infection control.

Explain infection control and the infectious disease process.

Apply the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary in improving protection from communicable diseases.

Perform outbreak investigations and discuss the importance of proper investigation and reporting.

Determine and apply proper post exposure measures.

Describe a systematic approach to developing and maintaining a infection control and risk management program.
