Course overview

History combines particularly well with Sociology. The study of History introduces you to new ways of looking at the big social, cultural and intellectual changes that have taken place in our past, and allows you to think about the ways in which war, revolution, great leaders and ordinary lives have shaped the world we live in today. The study of European History and its culture and ideas forms an important grounding in your first year but after that you will have the opportunity to focus on areas of particular interest.

Studying Sociology allows you to examine the social structures, institutions, powers, and desires that motivate and control human beings, encouraging you to look beneath the surface of what we most take for granted about life. Whether your interests lie in UK History, Russian dictators or different social lives, this degree will certainly have a great deal to offer you.
